A first-rate right-handed batsman known for his discipline and no-nonsense attitude, Babar Azam claimed a long-term place in Pakistan's batting line-up with a strong performance in 2016, notching three consecutive ODI hundreds against the West Indies. in the UAE, and a 90 in his third test, in Hamilton. He was 22 years old at the time.

Born in Lahore and first cousin to the Akmal brothers, Azam worked his way up in age group cricket. His journey began at an under-15 world championship in 2008 and he played two under-19 World Cups in 2010 and 2012, where he was Pakistan's top run scorer.
"We didn't have to guide him, he was alone, but we supported him all the time," said Kamran Akmal. Azam had the distinction of being the top scorer regularly in domestic age-group cricket before being called up to the national team in 2015 and made his debut during the home ODI series against Zimbabwe, a rarity because Azam's rise came during the isolation of Pakistan as an international headquarters. due to security concerns.
His ODI hundreds hat-trick against the West Indies led to a Test debut in the Test series that followed, and Azam had a chance to cement his place when runs from Younis Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq they finished.
He would seize that opportunity, and then some. Over the years that followed, Azam became Pakistan's best batsman by far, the country's most famous cricketer, and one of the best batsmen in the world. He is, even with much of his career ahead of him, one of the best batsmen in Pakistan.
He was the second fastest player in 2000 ODI races and second fastest in 1000 T20I races. He already has more ODI hundreds than all but two Pakistan batsmen, and a World Cup hundred in a decisive game against New Zealand will go down as one of Pakistan's great individual ODI performances. While the early years of Test cricket did not bring the instant success of white-ball cricket, steady year-on-year improvements have seen it rank among the best Test batsmen since the start of 2018 as well.
Several Pakistani players of this generation have suffered regressions after a few years in the side, but Azam, luckily for Pakistan, seems immune to even that malaise. The increased responsibility that Pakistan has dumped on his shoulders – he was named T20I and ODI captain in 2019 before finally captaining the Test side from 2021 – seems to have had little impact on his personal form for now.
